Orioles pitcher Uehara out for up to two months

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Koji Uehara has been sidelined for up to two months because of a lingering elbow injury, the team said on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old Japanese was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday for the second time this season but subsequent tests revealed the injury was worse than initially thought.

Uehara, out of action from May 24 to June 11 due to a strained left hamstring, has a partial tear in his right elbow.

"Koji''s going to be out for a while," Orioles manager Dave Trembley told team website (baltimore.orioles.mlb.com).

"He''ll have to rest it for three to five weeks."

Uehara, the first Japanese-born player to represent the Orioles, is 2-4 with a 4.05 ERA in 12 starts this season.
