Raiders sign Pro Bowl cornerback Asomugha to new deal

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The Oakland Raiders re-signed Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to a multi-year contract, the NFL team said on Thursday.

Details of the three year deal were not announced but media reports said Asomugha is set to become the highest paid defensive back in the NFL.

The Raiders''s first round selection in the 2003 draft, Asomugha led the NFL in interceptions in 2006 with eight but has had only one each of the last two seasons as teams rarely tested the cornerback rated as one of the league''s best.

In six seasons with the Raiders, Asomugha has 257 tackles and 10 interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.
