Rams lining up Spagnuolo as new head coach

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The St. Louis Rams are set to hire New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo as their new head coach, the team said on Saturday, citing sources.

Terms of the deal were not revealed on their website (www.stlouisrams.com) but the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper said 49-year-old Spagnuolo had accepted a four-year deal worth just under $12 million.

Spagnuolo spent the last two seasons as the Giants'' defensive coordinator, helping New York win the Super Bowl in 2008, after working as a defensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2006.

He replaces Jim Haslett, who was 2-10 as interim coach after his promotion from defensive coordinator when Scott Linehan was sacked.

The Rams were 2-14 this season and finished in last place in the NFC West.
